Interstitial Cystitis Symptoms and Causes
Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a condition of increased bladder sensitivity. Interstitial cystitis symptoms may include urinary frequency, urinary urgency, and pelvic pain or discomfort. Diagnosis of interstitial cystitis is primarily made on the basis of typical symptoms and the lack of other significant bladder problems, such as bladder infection or cancer.
No one knows what causes interstitial cystitis, but doctors believe it is a real physical problem and not a result, symptom or sign of an emotional problem. Because the symptoms of interstitial cystitis are varied, most researchers believe that it represents a spectrum of disorders rather than one single disease.
