Salivary Gland Cancer Symptoms and Causes
Salivary gland cancer is a rare form of cancer that originates in the salivary glands. It can begin in the salivary glands of the mouth, neck or throat. The salivary glands make saliva and release it into the mouth. Saliva has enzymes that help digest food and antibodies that help protect against infections of the mouth and throat. There are three pairs of major salivary glands: Parotid glands are the largest salivary glands and are found in the front and just below each ear, sublingual glands are found under the tongue in the floor of the mouth and submandibular which are found below the jawbone. Most cases of salivary gland cancer originate in the parotid glands.
