Amir R. Dehdashti, MD, FACS, Appointed as Cerebrovascular Neurosurgeon at North Shore-LIJ’s Cushing Neuroscience Institute

MANHASSET, NY – North Shore-LIJ’s Cushing Neuroscience Institute (CNI) today announced that Amir R. Dehdashti, MD, FACS, has been appointed as director of cerebrovascular research and associate professor of neurosurgery at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. 

“Dr. Dehdashti is nationally recognized in the field of cerebrovascular neurosurgery and research,” said Raj K. Narayan, MD, chair of neurosurgery at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center and CNI’s director.  For the past five years Dr. Dehdashti has served as chief of cerebrovascular and skull base surgery at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa.

Dr. Dehdashti completed his residency in neurosurgery at Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) in Switzerland under Dr. Nicolas de Tribolet.  He completed a fellowship in cerebrovascular surgery at Lausanne Hospital in Switzerland and another fellowship in this field at Toronto Western Hospital in Canada. He obtained a third fellowship in skull base and minimally invasive endoscopic skull base surgery, also at Toronto Western Hospital.

His clinical interests include: cerebrovascular surgery for aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVM), brainstem cavernomas, cerebral revascularization (bypass) and carotid endarterectomy; minimally invasive surgery for aneurysms, skull base tumors; endoscopic skull base surgery for pituitary tumors and selected skull base tumors, and surgery for cranial nerve disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, and glossopharyngeal neuralgia.

The author of numerous papers and book chapters, Dr. Dehdashti has done more than 100 lectures both nationally and internationally on these topics.

 Dr. Dehdashti is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies, the Swiss Neurological Society and the North American Skull Base Society.
