North Shore-LIJ’s Joseph Cabral Honored for Workforce Leadership

The North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today that Joseph Cabral, the health system’s chief human resource officer (CHRO), recently received the CHRO of the Year Award from HRO Today.
Mr. Cabral was cited for providing leadership to ensure talent acquisition and retention, business growth and a culture that helped North Shore-LIJ become one of the “50 Most Engaged Workplaces in the U.S.,” according to Achievers. Under Mr. Cabral’s leadership, the health system has also been recognized as one of Becker Hospital Review’s top “100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare,” and also listed in the top 10 in DiversityInc. magazine.
In 2008, Mr. Cabral led the effort to start a high potential leadership development program that identified emerging leaders who could take on future leadership roles at North Shore-LIJ. There have been over 500 participants in the high potential program; 84 percent have been promoted and/or changed roles and there is a 95 percent retention rate of all participants.
“I am honored to have been recognized by HRO Today with this award,” Mr. Cabral said. “Selecting and retaining the right individuals as well as encouraging them to reach their fullest potential have made North Shore-LIJ one of the premiere health systems in the country.” Mr. Cabral adds that, “this award would not have been possible without my incredible team.”
Mr. Cabral has more than 18 years of experience creating and implementing strategies that enhance organizational change. He has previously held human resources leadership positions at New York Presbyterian Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Boston. Mr. Cabral is also a member of the New York State’s Long Island Regional Economic Development Council and co-chairs the Workforce and Education Workgroup.
