Faculty Development Sandbox

Our mission is to foster an organizational learning environment in which learners are empowered to continually work toward their own professional development and educational scholarship. This alignment of teaching and learning will optimize education and patient care throughout the continuum of medical education.

Who do we serve?

Faculty Development programs support the North Shore-LIJ Health System and the School of Medicine faculty, clinicians, residents and students across UME, GME and CME.

What do we provide?

The faculty development leadership plans and implements diverse programs committed to supporting learners across the continuum of medical education through new knowledge and skill acquisition relevant to teaching and learning. The core principle followed is to promote active learning through facilitated teaching. A goal is to promote a scholarly environment for all faculty participating in our medical education programs.

  • Nursing/Medical Education Workshops-varying topics for classroom and clinical teaching and learning
  • Professional Development Scholars’ Program (9 hours)
  • Learning Drives Teaching and Assessment: Enhance Your Skills for Diverse Settings and Learners (8-2 hour sessions/series)
  • Reflective Practice/Narrative Working Group
  • Narrative Rounds: Promoting Humanism in Healthcare (quarterly)
  • Medical Education Grand Rounds on Teaching and Learning topics
  • Community of Practices (Special Interest Groups, eg. Narrative Reflection)

School of Medicine Faculty
