Program Requirements

NORTH SHORE-LONG ISLAND JEWISH HEALTH SYSTEM
GENERAL SURGERY TRAINING PROGRAM
300 Community Drive
Manhasset, NY 11030

Thank you for your interest in our general surgery-training program here at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System.

All applicants must apply through ERAS (post-office opens September 01) and the application deadline is November 30. Because of the large volume of applications, we can no longer accept lengthy e-mails explaining prior educational history, or any kind of documents via e-mail, fax, regular or express mail. (After match results are posted and you have not matched, IF you are participating in the scramble, the same requirements indicated below will apply.

All applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. (No visas are sponsored by our program).

Each year, our program offers eight(8)categorical and sixteen (16) preliminary positions. Although we do not require prior U.S. clinical experience, we prefer it. USMLE scores for all applicants must be 205 or more for both Step1 and Step2 CK and a pass score for Step2 CS. (There are NO exceptions). All other required documents must be competitive with other candidates. If your graduation date is five years or more, and you are applying for only the categorical track, you must have at least one year of U.S. clinical residency experience OR apply for both preliminary and categorical tracks. If you are invited to interview with us, our review committee will determine which track to rank you for.

Three letters of recommendation are required. One of the three must be from your Program Director, Chairman or Professor. ALL letters must be on official letterhead and dated no more than 6 months prior to submission. If you are currently, or have recently completed any time in a U.S. accredited surgical residency program, we also require your ABSITE score(s) for each year completed.

Again, thank you for considering our program.
