Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Treatment

Surgery for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis may be recommended if your curve exceeds a certain degree (usually 40 or 45). The procedure is intended to straighten and balance the spine and secure it in place (fusion) with implants including screws, rods, hooks, and wires, so curve progression stops while skeletal maturity is reached. There are other treatments for idiopathic scoliosis if the curve of the spine is less severe.
