Mole Removal

Mole Removal Treatment

Mole removal occurs for a variety of reasons including improving appearance or reducing discomfort from a mole rubbing against clothing or having been shaved over. In some cases, mole removal may be necessary if skin cancer is suspected.

There are a number of procedures for mole removal including:

  • Excision with stitches — the mole is cut out, and the wound is sutured.
  • Excision with cauterization — the mole is burned away using a cauterizing device with no stitches required.
  • Laser surgery — the mole is eliminated with the use of a laser.
  • Shave biopsy — portions of the mole are removed with a scalpel in layers until only a flat mark remains that is the same color as surrounding skin.
